Dear BOB – I love you!

I just LOVE him! I am completely and madly bowled over by my BOB. He’s the newest man in my life and first orange one. He and I and Jiya did an 8-miler on the Steven’s Creek Trail last Saturday and he won hands down! But who is this BOB anyway?

BOB was born in San Luis Obispo, California and his parents are an airline mechanic and a bicycle industry expert. They called him a Beast Of Burden(how very mean!!) before rechristening him BOB. Moms have a soft corner for him and he’s even been on Oprah. Move over everyone and make way for my new and oh-so-cool BOB man……….

A happy Friday morning

Today is a very happy morning, why, I am back into my most loved possession – my pre-maternity clothes. Honestly, I have hated the XL and XXLs since the day I had to turn to them and would secretly pray that I wouldnt have to go beyond XX.  No, I did not have nightmares about them but now after having lost more than 25  lbs (thanks to my A-diet and exercise routine) I do dream about setting them on fire. I am awfully proud of myself on my achievement,  actually loss to be exact. Will they call me on Oprah? Will I be asked to write a book on it? I think not, but, I can most certainly write this post about it which I have been wanting to ever since I started(seriously) my weight-loss routine.

I have surrendered all my favorite foods for the past so many months and I just realized that I have not made a bigger sacrifice in my life before. But wait, I have to take it back – Dictionary.com says that ‘sacrifice’ means giving up something prized regardless of profit. So since I profited from my loss(of weight), the giving up does not really amount to sacrifice but rather just plain ‘giving up’. But who cares? I am focusing only on the ‘profit’ aspect here regarless of the associated cost. Sacrifice or not, I simply DID IT and am back into the lean league once again.

BTW, did you guys know what makes the tower of Pisa lean? IT NEVER EATS!!!

Carb watchers – this is a very simple and healthy recipe. Chop one red pepper and two zucchinis and saute them in half a tablespoon of oil until soft. Add salt, pepper, lemon juice, crushed pepper etc. whatever you feel like for extra zing. Tastes delicious!!

The ‘A’ Diet

Disclaimer: This diet plan has been designed by me for myself. I am certainly reaping the benefits. You are most welcome to try it out albeit at your own risk. Please be aware that I am neither a nutritionist nor a doctor.

Having said so, here is the famous ‘A’ diet.

Some basic information:

Weight loss is simple math to some extent. One will lose weight when outgoing calories exceed incoming calories. So it can be wise to watch what you eat. Just make sure you read the ‘nutritional info’ before popping something into your mouth.

Lets say, an average person burns 2000 calories as a result of a no-exercise daily routine. So if you eat less than 2000 calories a day, you are bound to lose weight. This is simple math and a good equation to remember.

What happens when you eat carbohydrates in excess? Carbohydrates are energy giving foods but if eaten in excess, the extra carbs will be stored as fat. So do not overeat!! I tried to follow the rule ‘no carbs after 6 pm’. That does not mean I starved by body of the essential enery givers, I simply controlled the carb intake and tried to eat as little of them as possible.

And I am repeating again, keep in mind always, energy out must be greater than energy in order to lose weight. 3500 net calories lost or burnt, amount to 1 lb of weight lost.

OK, back to business –

Breakfast – low sugar oatmeal + milk
(its good to have a protein and a carb in the morning, options – a glass of milk, one cup of cereal, or a cereal bar, a banana, eggs, 2 slices of whole wheat bread etc)
Lunch – Home cooked meal (3-4 chapatis, sabzi, dal, rice, indian salad like tomato/cucumber/carrot/beet etc.)
Dinner – Home cooked meal again(try to eat all the carbs you want before 6 pm)

Absolute NO-NOS – SUGAR in any shape or form, FRIED FOOD, JUNK FOOD(its mostly fried)/FAST FOOD

No/Low carb options – nuts, protein bar, eggs, soups, cheese, salad, chicken, fish, non-starchy vegetables etc.)
Try to drink 2 glasses of milk everyday
For sugar cravings try sugar-free jello
Misc snacks – nuts, cheese, fruit, cereal bars, protein bars, baby carrots, soups, multigrain crackers, plain/flavored yogurt, sprouts etc

I got on my treadmill in the late afternoon and as I started running, it dawned on me how much peace I felt that it was almost therapeutic. For instance, I had been mad at Raghu about something since the morning but as soon as I stepped on my T, my frustration was gone and I fixed a nice dinner for him that evening. I think I could have found an answer to all our domestic troubles. They say that, never go to bed angry and I think that a quick sweat on the T could be a good way to vent away that anger and frustration for the night.
